Student of the Month Story

who: Peter Dang
what: Is the student of the month
When: 4/1/17
Where: bowie highschool
Why: he contributes to cancer research
How: inventing new antibiotics

Peter Dang has become the student of the month at James Bowie High School. He is the student of the month for the month of April so he found out about it on 4/1/17. He became the student of the month because he has good grades and is very involved in the reasearch for a cure to luekemia. He makes sure to keep up with his work by making a schedule of which research he needs to get done each day.
Becoming student of the month can be very hard to do, and it is a very big deal. We asked Dang why he thought he became student of the month. " I think I was chosen to be the student of the month because I have been really involved with key cancer research outside of school while maintaining a GPA of 4.5" Dang has many tips to be a good student such as how to be involved with extracurriculars and how to keep good grades. One of his main tips was about what to do to balance school work with research/activities outside of school, "I balance my research and school work by having a schedule so I wont get caught up in one of them and forget about the other."
Peter is very involved with the school and likes most of his classes. "My favorite subject is biology and sciences because I am really interested in finding a cure for childhood leukemia. My least favorite is history because i don't like learning about the past, I don't think it is that helpful in our world today. I think we should be learning about whats going on right now." Dang said he really likes helping the community as well. "I work for Habitats for Humanities on the side of research. We just finished building shelters in Sudan this past summer."
Dang admits he wasn't the best student in middle school. He didn't get the grades that he wanted but he kept working hard to get them up. "To be honest, I was expecting to get student of the month because I feel I have shown major improvement since middle school and continue to excel everyday." Peter would like to thank all of the people that made him the intelligent young man he is today, including his mother, grandfather, and Mr Doggett, his middle school science teacher.
